Features – 9/10

Google Duo is a dedicated app for private video calls and small video conferences. It’s focused on providing the highest video quality possible on your device. Of course, the quality of calls always depends on the particular camera model and the quality of the Internet connection. However, Google Duo manages to maintain the original quality of your camera, even in 3G networks. Even if you make a call from a dark place, the app will help and raise the exposure level higher than your camera automatics can. If you don’t have enough time to talk, just record your video message and send it in advance or later. Besides, you can add dozens of visual effects to make the messages more exciting. In the recent update, Google added an option to make group calls to up to 7 people simultaneously. This feature is both good for private and business conversations. Make sure that you have stable 4G or WiFi connection as group calls are more demanding.

This video chatting app ensures maximal privacy with end-to-end encryption technologies. Due to the ‘knock-knock’ feature, you can see who’s really calling you and see if you know the person or it’s someone you don’t want to talk to.

Ease of Use – 8/10

There’re no excess features in Google Duo. Only calls and video messages. If looks and works absolutely the same on both smartphones and tablets and leaning take less than a minute independently from your previous experiences. The only serious drawback is high energy consumption caused by the high-quality video encoding that raises the load of the entire system. A 30-minute call can take from 5% to 30% of battery.

Design – 10/10

Google Duo has a minimalistic interface inspired by Google’s proprietary material design. Searching for other users and navigating is as simple as in any other messenger app, but even less cluttered.

Pricing – 10/10

Like the vast majority of applications by Google, Google Duo is totally free, even if you want to use group chats for business purposes. You can download the app for free on the App Store and Google Play, or access your account from any web browser on a computer or mobile device.
